Question 1 & 6

Question 6
I think Chinese learning students of different proficiency levels want to learn about different content in a Chinese writing class. First and second-year students  want to learn to use the correct words and grammar to do informal writing, for example, expressing their feelings, describe a short story or write a letter to a friend; for third and fourth year students, they want to use the correct language to accomplish formal writing, for example, an argumentative article comparing the cultural differences between China and the US. As a teacher, I think all levels of students need to learn to use correct words and grammar to deliver the meaning; also, they need to know how to write properly with different genres.
With digital literacy, I am not sure what students want to learn from the teachers. Before reading the chapter, I (as a second language learner) thought as long as I work on my writing ability, my digital literacy would also get improved; however, now I think digital literacy requires more than writing skills. One needs to know what software to use to write efficiently, where to post the writing for more exposure, how to do the layout design of the written piece. I personally think for now digital literacy should not be the biggest concern of foreign language teachers. If interested, students can learn the technique using other sources. The most important task of language teachers is to help students to deliver meaning with appropriate language. I think the content of the writing matters the most, whether one is writing on paper or a digital platform.

Question 1
Writing is a process of trying to communicate meaning in a certain context by creating a readable text. I think the definition applies to both L1 and L2 students.
